HMS Pinafore ……A Truly Comic Opera

HMS Pinafore was the fourth operatic collaboration between librettist, W H Gilbert and composer, Arthur Sullivan, but it was the first to become an international sensation! The Deal Savoyards have chosen it for its wit and vigour, as well as its links with the sea, making it a perfect show to be produced in Deal. The piece tackles the issue of love between members of different classes, and lampoons the political habits of the mid-nineteenth century, rather daringly, because Arthur Sullivan was, at the time, a favourite of Queen Victoria.
